Frequently Asked Questions
One of the simplest ways to make any pakoras crispy and crunchy is to add a bit of rice flour in addition to the chickpea flour that the recipe calls for. You can even reduce the amount of chickpea flour to half, and compensate by adding a little of the rice flour into it.
You can actually prepare the mixture for the pakoras- minus the spring onions- in advance and refrigerate it. Then, when you want to make the pakoras, all you need to do is combine the chopped spring onions with the pakora mix and then air fry them.
These air fried spring onion pakoras have spring onions as the star ingredient, and while you can always throw in some other veggies of your choice too, it is best to allow the flavor and texture of the spring onions to shine.
You can, however, add some more seasonings of your choice to enhance the flavor of the pakoras. Paprika, garlic powder, Italian seasoning and even peri peri seasoning all work great.
Tips & Tricks to Make the Air Fried Spring Onion Pakoras
Making these air fried spring onion pakoras is super easy, but having these little tips handy can really make a difference.
- Want to lend a little extra flavor to the spring onion pakoras? Add some chopped curry leaves into the mix.
- Be careful when you add water to the pakora mixture. Too much water can end up making the batter runny, which is not what you want.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, you can also deep fry the pakoras- just make sure you cook them on medium-high heat.
- Regardless of whether you are cooking the pakoras in an air fryer or deep frying them, remember not to cook too many at the same time. Overcrowding the pakoras can cause them to stay undercooked and even become soggy.
