You’ll need two sets of ingredients to make the air fried tandoori mushrooms.
- Curd: 1 cup
- Ginger garlic paste: 1 tbsp
- Red chili powder: 1 tsp
- Black pepper powder: 1 tsp
- Coriander powder: 2 tsps
- Cumin powder: 1 tsp
- Tandoori masala: 1 tsp
- Button mushrooms (halved): 2.5 cups
For the Green chutney
- Coriander leaves: A bunch
- Mint leaves: ½ cup
- Garlic cloves: 8-10
- Green chilies: 3-5
- Salt: 2 tsps or as per taste
- Lemon juice: Half a lemon
How to Make the Air Fried Tandoori Mushrooms and Green Chutney
Once you have all the ingredients ready, here’s what you need to do next to make the mushrooms and the green chutney.
Pre-heat the air fryer at 400°F for 5 minutes.
In a mixing bowl, add the curd and the spices and mix well.
Add in the halved mushrooms next and coat them well with the curd mixture.
Transfer the coated mushrooms to the air fryer basket and spray a bit of oil on them, and cook them at 350°F for 8 minutes.
You can flip them once in between and brush some oil so that they are cooked well.
Then cook them again at 400°F for 2 minutes.
For the green chutney, blend everything together in a blender. Adjust salt and lemon juice if required.
Serve the tandoori mushrooms hot with green chutney.
Frequently Asked Questions
While this recipe requires you to use only mushrooms, you can actually take it a step further and add some more veggies and ingredients too. You could dice onions and bell peppers until they are roughly the same size as the mushrooms, coat them with the same mixture and air fry them.
Cottage cheese cubes or firm tofu can also be air fried in a similar way and can be skewered along with the mushrooms before being served.
While this recipe calls for the use of button mushrooms, you can also try recreating the same with oyster mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms or even king oyster mushrooms.
Don’t have a lot of mushrooms? You can also use some cubed potatoes and replicate the recipe.
While air frying the mushrooms will definitely get them a nice crispy texture on the exterior, you can also add a bit of rice flour into the mixture. Doing this will lend the mushrooms an extra bit of crunchiness that you’ll love.
If you have any leftover air fried tandoori mushrooms, you can refrigerate them for 1-2 days in an airtight container. Then, when you want to reheat them, pop them in the air fryer until they are crisp again.
Microwaving them isn’t recommended, as it can cause the air fried mushrooms to become soggy.

- Remember to use thick curd for this recipe. You can use Greek yogurt or just strain the excess water out of the regular curd and then use it to coat the mushrooms.
- To lend an extra smoky and earthy flavor to the mushrooms, brush them with mustard oil.
- You can also add an extra depth of flavor to the mushrooms by adding some crushed dried fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi) into the yogurt mixture.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, you can even bake the mushrooms or grill them in a pan on your stovetop, and they’ll turn out just as delicious.
